Bike Carb Balancing
whitestu - 2/10/07 at 07:29 PM

Am I right in thinking the vacuum take off for balacing bike carbs is normally on the inlet rubbers?
I haven't done any for years and can't remember!

If so how do people balance bike carbs if using silicone hoses to join on to the manifold?

Cheers

Stu

I thought most bike carbs had take-off tubes for use with a Carbtune or similar device... (4 bits of clear tube with some coloured water in)

thats what you use for bike carbs.

much cheaper to use a piece of 1/4" pipe or tube, feed that into the carb up against the throttle plate,
and listen to the pitch of the air rushing as its being drawn past the throttle..!

much quicker to balance this way than connecting up a vac guage.!

worth a try anyway as its essentially FREE !

you can buy cheap mercury ones that are better than the dial type but they are sensitive .

lol listening to it may be free but i doubt you'd get them anywhere near the mark as you only get 3 adjusters for the 4 carbs so as you adjust one the other one goes the opposite way

i use this to set up mine

lnky

scroll down to the bottom of page.

Good part is the fact you do not have to be a member.

Thanks

I have a bike carb balancer - what I can't remember is whether the vacuum take off is on the carbs [I can't see one on my ZX6R carbs] or on the inlet rubbers.

On the zx9 its a tapped hole into the inlet
port on the block just below where the
inlet rubbers bolt on so not on the rubbers themselves
I imagine the zx6 is similar

I used a piece of tube and my ear, then not believing that method, borrowed a plug in balancer thing and found they were so close it wasn't worth tweaking them.

see.! the simpiest methods are the best..
