hi gys just got my dutton b plus car delivered last night its got ford escort/cortina running gear 1.6 cross flow.
my problem is that its hard to find gears. i eventually found first but couldn't find second.
anyone have a diaram of where the gears are. supid i know but i'm wondering are the gears in a strange sequece
i assumed it would be 1 3 5
r 2 4 ??
is there even fifh gear in these boxes?
the kit is 30 years old and the gear boxs feels it alright. she fairly tore up the tarmac in first though
The gears are inside the gearbox, round things with jagged edges. You should be able to work out whchc is whcih from diagrams and photos in the haynes manual.

From distant memory the 4 speed escort was
R(push down) 1 3
2 4
Where reverse is and how it is guarded depends on which of the many Cortina gearboxes is in it.
It will either be
Left and back
or
Rght and back
or on really old ones
left and forward
On 1960s ford gearboxes you PULLED UP on the gear knob to find reverse on 1970s ones you PUSHED DOWN.
5 speed Cortinas only existed on fantasy island, with the manual boxes you got 4 speeds with synchro on all 4 after 1965. On the fragile autobox you
got just 3 speeds.
Remove the gaiter, take a pic where the lever screws into the box, post the pic here.
it stopped raining and i had nosey. the reverse is to the left and back(lift).
at the lol its 30 years old hahhaha.....you should see the thing ,its in amazingly good nick and pulls like a bleeping train.it was wheel spinning and
fishtailing like a mad er...fish? lol!! i'm gonna get it resprayed and retrim the interior then it will look like any other 7 style-ish car
