Plastic Fuel Tanks--Revisited
SteveO - 24/9/03 at 09:59 AM

Hi all,

..yes i have read through the previous thread on this topic, but the one of interest was left hanging without a conclusive feedback.
I have a plastic tank from MK..nice lightweight etc, fitted the sender and fixed it to the tank using both screws and the tough black plastic sealant used to hold down the floor ali before rivetting. On sunday i noticed the sender had popped up half way round the sender.
The tank is vented using a hose from the top pointing down i.e inverted u.
Has anyone got a fix or feedback from the guy who had an imploded tank earlier?
do i need a second vent?

Steve

Steve

Strange one that, have you got fuel in the tank ? maybe the sealant has reacted with the fuel.

I just rubber gasketed mine in and tapped the six bolt screws in the top,i have a one way breather on the tank and i've had no probs.

Hi Bob,

Yes i have had fuel in the tank from the hot summer days. You maybe right the sealant has reacted with the fuel fumes. i 'll try another type of sealant.
It doesn't seem anyone else has had any problems so i won't panic. A work mate has just told me his warrior tank had plastic fuel tanks but had two vents and adviced having something similar.
