cvh 1600

Hi

I am cleaning a 1600cvh with twin dellorto carbs ready for selling ( all original work by Vulcan )

When moving the dipstick while fitting the carbs I noticed that the housing for the dipstick moves! It will actually come out of the engine! Its like a sleve. Is this a major problem? How is it fixed?
Will put some pics of the engine in archive so if anyone can give me a guide price for selling that would be a great help as well.

Trying to raise cash to try BEC!

thanks john

From what I remember I think that tends to happen and isn't a problem.

Put a spot of instant metal round it if you want to?

Mr Whippy - 30/11/07 at 01:52 PM

or try tapping it in, I suspect the hole is tapered

Hi

is that the twp part metal fix i think its steel and heats up when you mix the 2 together?

thanks john

worX - 30/11/07 at 01:57 PM

Yeah, but like I say it isn't a problem so it is only just to hold it in place - not structuraly or anything daft!

Like Whippy says, just tap it back in first!

Although when I did that and tried twisting (gently) it just came free again, hence my suggestion of the instant metal!

IndyJohn - 1/12/07 at 10:04 PM

is this a very rare engine???

no one tried this??

it was bought of a guy that races oval! thought it would be ok in one of these 7s?

IndyJohn - 2/12/07 at 06:42 AM

has anyone used one of these engines that was prepared by Vulcan?

john

I think there's a few locosts on here with the CVH, but it's not an overly common engine because most of them fitted to the typical Sierra donor were of the rather crap 1.8 variety.

Vulcan have a pretty good reputation though, if you can confirm that the engine was definately built by them and is in good condition it shouldn't be too hard to sell.

Hi

thanks for the reply!

This is the XR2 engine.

Judging the response on here, its not going to sell here. So I will do a bit more work on it , then sell it cheap on ebay or one of the car racing forums.

thanks john
