X20XEV ecotec sump? where
blakep82 - 12/12/07 at 09:29 PM

evening

where's good to get a sump for a X20XEV ecotec engine? QED is something £150. thought that was a bit excessive

no?

Assuming it's the same sump as the C20XE, then all of the cast ones are at least that much (the SBD one is closer to 250). Yukspeed do a weld-your-own kit but it's still quite pricy. The cheapest option would be to get a steel sump from an 8v and some steel plate and make your own if you can.

I managed to find a 2nd hand QED one on eBay after a few months of keeping an eye out, still cost me far too much

SBD seem to have a standard pressed steel one for £40 as far as i can see. but i don't know if they are the same... i guess a vauxhall dealer may have one gor an omega...

There's generally loads of steel ones on ebay. If you're going to chop and weld it you might as well get a second hand one, shouldn't be hard to find in the local scrappy...

i wonder if the 1.6 1.8 and 2.0 sumps are all the same? there's very little in the scrappys round here.

Not sure on the later ecotecs, but virtually since the year dot, 1.8 and 2.0 vauxhall blocks were the same, and the 1.3, 1.4 and 1.6 were another family.

prob all changed now but thats how it was up to my last engine (1994 one)

pickup up the enigne today (nearly killed myself a few times ove the dales, very icy!)

anyway, i always thought FWD cars used the same oil in the gearbox as in the engine. are vauxhall engines not the same? do they have different oils?

this one seems to have a proper sump under the engine

Seperate engine and gearbox oils on most fwd cars now.
Are you really that old that you remember the a series bmc

blakep82 - 15/12/07 at 11:36 PM

^ the a series was in my old mini, the only fwd car i've ever had! don't like fwd... thats good then, i'll get that gearbox off tomorrow and drop the engine in the front of the truck
was worried i'd end up dropping oil everywhere, and get grit in the crankshaft
