robertst - 13/12/07 at 03:53 PM

i've reassembled the engine again, and i didn't paint the head entirely becuase i thought i wasn't supposed to do so. now 2 weeks being covered outside, the head is rusting. what can i do to prevent it from rusting? do i have to paint it entirely?

Yes with engine enamel. or lightly coat it with oil

i did coat the bare parts with oil last tiem i wire burshed it and it didnt work.... maybe grease? but that attracts dirt...

clean it up and paint it - I used hammerite but on crossflow, then inner two exhaust ports get mighty hot so the paint has blackened at bit.

high temp paint would cure that but am I bothered?

you may not have the same problem on your pintosaurus head.

or oil or keep it in a seal plastic bag.

Use 'Duck Oil', Motorcyclists use in the winter on the engine casings to give them protection

don't store the engine outside, the cylinderwall will be rusting too, not heavily but they will.

did you know that a 4age without the manifolds and ignition fits under a normal hight bed? neither did my girlfriend.. whoops, hahahaha
(mind you back then it was MY house, wouldn't dare to do that anymore)

oh crap you're right. that info could have been more useful to me earlier!

the rust inside the engine will probably be very very minimal, it doesn't matter how well youtape up intake and exhaust ports it will rust inside, the valves go first usually, so if they're not rusted badly the rest will probably be ok aswell.
so for the first start you could pour some oil into the spark holes, the rust will come off after just a few revs and exit the engine together with the burned oil, could get a bit smokey but a safe way to do it.
