Vauxhall Calibra engine.

My nephew has a Calibra with a knackered 8 valve 2.0ltr engine and can't find one to replace it so he wants to know which engine would be an easy swap for it to keep it as simple as possible. Anybody got any ideas?

C20XE? Uses the same block so mounts etc should also be straightforward

Pete, there's a 2l Calibra (dunno whether 8 or 16 valve) parked outside a neighbours house with it's arse-end shunted. You want me to ask what he's doing with it ?

XE with the loom from the donor.

Cant he find a cav sri 8v lump anywhere?? There must be plenty about?

if he is not looking for all out performance, a couple of hamsters inside a pair of carbon fibre hamster wheels and a supply of chopped carrots would suffice.

there are even more hamsters about. If one were male and t'other female, the supply could in theory be infinite.

one could keep a roll of cellotape in the car for "recreational" purposes.

Surely there must have been hundreds of thousands of these engines made? IIRC they were fitted to the Carlton, Cavalier, Calibra and Astra.

Has he tried any of the online "partfinder" type searches?

Any conversion to one of the 16v engines (Ecotec or C20XE) is going to be complicated by the different manifolds, exhaust system, ECU etc. used.

If it's the 8 valve and it sounds like a decent runner it would be very handy thanks Tony. There must have been millions of them running round but they are scarce now.
