"Can you guess what it is yet"
Johnmor - 17/12/07 at 04:46 PM

This the the heart for my latest rebuild,

Can you guess what its for, (not locost)
A bit conventional but its got a bit of style.
The angle of the inlet manifold will give it away to the hardcore fans..

imp?

zilspeed - 17/12/07 at 04:58 PM

Don't think it's a Fiat twink - there would be a water inlet between the can pulleys.

Definitely not an imp, it's a twin cam.

Not an Alfa twink, that's 100% upright and the one in the pic looks like a slant 4.

Let's have another look

indykid - 17/12/07 at 04:59 PM

something that's canted over quite a bit.

lotus twink?
tom

a quick bit of googling shows the lotus engine goes the other way and a hell of a lot more........makes me wonder why i didn't check before i posted?

Lotus 907 leans over the other way - as does the Triumph Dolly sprint and that's a chain driven 16 valve with a single cam so it's none of those either.

It's not a Toyota 2TG either.

zilspeed - 17/12/07 at 05:03 PM

Right, here we go.

It is a Fiat twin cam and it originally resided in a Strada 105TC or Abarth 130, because it's an 8 valver with a dizzy and also has the fixed driveshaft on the O/S to minimise torque steer.

Or something similar.....

Johnmor - 17/12/07 at 05:09 PM

Zilspeed is close but no cigar.

This is standard engine with no modifications (apart from the twin 45s) and came straight out of the car its going back into>

Ill give you a few more guesses

zilspeed - 17/12/07 at 05:10 PM

Beta Coupe in that case or possibly a Monte Carlo ?

donut - 17/12/07 at 05:11 PM

You don't know the half of it!!!!

Johnmor - 17/12/07 at 05:51 PM

Zilspeed came the closest.

Lancia Beta Spyder.

Very similar to the Fiat but the head is a bit different and produces slightly more power in standard form.

Should produce around 150bhp with the 45s, only weighs about 1000kg so should be fun.

John
That's what I like to see, an optimist.

You live in North East Scotland, and you've just bought a 20 year old Italian Convertible!

Good luck!

Cheers

Mike

Johnmor - 17/12/07 at 07:13 PM

"just bought" I've had it almost 10 years and its still in a thousand bits.

Bring on global warming!!!!

muzchap - 17/12/07 at 09:00 PM

LMAO - nice quote Guiness

Richard Quinn - 18/12/07 at 01:30 PM

I recognised it! I had a Beta (Coupe) but ended up running over my own engine when the engine mounts let go due to tin worm! (Whole subframe dropped!)
