
Hi guys,
Having a problem trying to fit my alternator inside the chassis. My engine is mounted a bit further forwards than it should be so that doesnt help
either. Nevertheless, has anyone else had this problem and if so, how did you get around it?
One potential solution I have it to buy a smaller alternator and make a new mounting bracket and make it so the alternator would sit much higher
almost above or in line with the top chassis rail?

I think often people fit a smaller alternator like the nippon denso jobbies. Very small and still produce a fair amount of wallop. As found on many japanese small cars in the scrapyard...

I've got a 1.6 pinto & had the same problem. I then fitted a small alternator from a Nissan Micra.
You will need to make a new mounting bracket, and a tensioner. But thats not hard after makng a chassis.

Nissan Micra seems to be the one of choice.
Any compact alternator should be up to the job.

I have a Kia Pride one on my Pinto
i've used a 1991 nissan micra alternator on a home made bracket which brought it in closer to the block.
alternator £15 inc postage (off ebay) bracket out of 5mm steel plate that i traded. low cost

I used a daewoo matiz alt on a home made bracket but i believe that some people have just removed the cooling fan from the pinto alt to give more
space. with no problems of overheating because of the low current drain of these cars.
