simple gear lever and bearing
saigonij - 4/1/08 at 05:44 PM

i want to try and make my own shortshift gear lever for my mt75 gearbox - simular to the westfield one.

does anyone know where i can get a gear lever ( simple rod i guess ) in a bearing and surround, i can use to make my own cradle and gear lever...

want to make something simular to this, but with out the £240 price tag.

Hi

On my build I made a bracket which fitted to the tunnel and then extended the original MT75 gear change bar, it works very well with no problems encountered.
I also used the original gear stick and trimmed it to suit my needs, a true locost answer.

regards

Bob

You could use a spherical bearing and holder.

Just make the lever to suit position, height and throw.

Easier to cut the Mt75 cradle up and use it for bits.

Mine ( since changed some )

big wasa...

thats a neat solution, but what about gearbox movement?

Could you use a length of threaded rod bolted through a rose-joint. IE rose joint held hozirontally, threaded rod though the eye, one nut either side to keep it in place..... It would also mean you could easily adjust the ratio between the gearstick movement and the remote gearstick movement...

just mod the existing lever arrangment.
Got to be the easiest option

in the car

Thats a fare comment that I can not give a full answer as its not on the road but !

I have kept the rubber mounting on the gearbox and I have used heavy duty engine and box mounts.

Sat in the car, bliping the throttle it feels much better than it did in the sierra.

It has a nice smooth positive action.

had a go at it today.

moved the gear lever 6cm further back.

i used the original cradle - be it cut down abit to remove most of the bulk.

i had two goes at getting the selector rod at the right length, but in the end im very pleased.

i have some pictures on my phone that ill upload later.

one question, i removed most of the gear lever leaving on the stubb - where can i get a new main leaver?
