Toyota gearbox bolt pattern
bigandy - 10/1/08 at 11:55 AM

Hi folks.

I was just wondering, does anyone know if the toyota engines tend to use a common gearbox bolt pattern? I seem to recall that Ford gearboxes often use a common bolting pattern, making it easy to use different engines with one type of gearbox.

I am thinking in particular the gearbox that is fitted to the MK1 MR2 engine (1600 4a-ge), and I am wondering if any other engines are a direct bolt on...

Cheers
Andy

I'd suggest talking to Raw engineering, or ask on one of the Toyota forums, I believe the 2.0l 20 valve unit fits as will the Corolla engine, but don't take my word for it!

The 4A angine family fit's that box, but the box is also fitted in other models with other engines the thing that;s different on the boxes is the bellhousing.

@russbost, there aint no such thing as a 2.0Liter 20v engine. only the 1.6 4age bottom end with either a silver or black top head fitted.

the only straight bolt ons are
4afe, 4age 16v 20v supercharged and to my believe also the 7afe engine, 1.8L which can be retrofitted with a bigport 4age 16v head, to make a torque monster 1.8L 16v Ghead engine.

the stock supercharged gearboxes have a LSD diff stock.

if you change to another toy engine you might be better of getting the acompaning gearbox with that.

there is some debate going on about the 1zzge engines fitting the older boxes aswell but I've never seen it done.
