Couple of Pinto questions

Can someone identify these 3 points on the pinto engine, & what i do with them please.

Looking down

1. water temp
2. breather
3. oil temp

one in top pic is engine temp sender, connects to temp gauge,

left hand one in bottom pic is crank breather connects to car/inlet on standard engine,

right hand one in bottom pic is oil pressure switch, connects to oil warning light

There are loads of threads on pinto crank case breathers etc, but if you read my most recent thread bare in mind my breathing issues were due to rogue dipstick of unknown origin and resultant overfilling of sump.


The oil pressure switch as standard on a pinto just lights the dash light of oil pressure drops. If you want to know actual pressure you can get a dual low warning and pressure sender (ive fitted one from ETB). For oil temperature you need to fit a seperate sender somewhere. If modding the sump then you should be able to fit a suitable boss, otherwise you can modify an oil gallery plug for the sender (what i have done).




Just as a summary to oil breather if you opt for catch tank - either modify the PCV (remove plunger and spring) or replace (burtons do shiny one, otherwise cortina oil trap will work). Pipe to tank highish up in largest pipe you can manage (1/2" bore will work). If you have rocker cover cap with outlet, pipe this to the tank also. Should work fine if oil level is ok. Tank does not need to be fancy £40 job. £2 ali drinks bottle will work. If all is well it wont fill that fast that you need a sight glass.
