I have an Vaux XE in my ST and wonder if there is anyone out there with the same engine. It is 2.1, full race head, ( autosprint ) steel rods, turbo
bearings, omega 11.5:1, H&H ignition, and 45 mm dellortos.
I have rebuilt this engine 3 times over 4 years and it is tuned for excellent low down power. Question is, is there any fix to stop the rear crank
seal from leaking ?
Ask NS Dev, he's got a bit of experience with the XE engine.
Have recently rebuilt my vaux xe , it was recommended to me from quite a few sources to use the original GM crank seal from vauxhall as well as
their sealant to cure the problem - I can dig out the sealant number for you tomorrow eve if ya need it ( got it from e-bay originally ) thick black
sticky stuff!!!

The Vauxhall sealant is the stuff to use. Also on a well used engine it's also not unknown for the oil seal to cause wear on the crank, worth a check, some have got away with giving it a polish and the leak has disappeared...
Thanks for the replys. The crank has only done 4000 miles so as for the seal wearing a mark on it probably is unlikely.
I have'nt used a geniune seal and black sealer before so thats worth a go Greg.
I did wonder if because, as its a heavy clutch there is more 'push' force on the flywheel, that maybe there is just enough movement to
slighly displace the ptfe coating the seal lays on initial start up. The last block build up was performed by a local engineers shop that have been
doing this kind of work since they invented the wheel and they probably used a Wurth sealer. Engine coming out soon to send the box back to BGH for a
slightly different set of ratios so will do seal then.
Must admit never had a rear seal leak. Had a couple of front seals let go, both times after the car had been pressure washed and let stand, rust crept
under the ring on the crankshaft.
As others have said, it could be the seal or it could be the sealer between the rear main bearing cap and the block.
either way its an engine out, gearbox off job.
ps I never use the vauxhall sealant, I use "Rhodorseal" and have never had a problem.
Thanks. Nothing against Vauxhall but been on the Rhodorseal website and it certainly looks good. I take it, it is the 5661. Prob take out eng/box end of Feb as the r/tax expires and then send the box to BGH at the same time for a slight change of ratios.
