Can i just buy a new cam on its own and fit it to my engine or should i buy new valve springs doobery firkins and widgets to go on it too???

At least fit new followers, otherwise you may have to replace both the cam and followers after a little while

Always fit new followers at least Also depending on what cam you may need different springs. Your cam supplier should be able to advise.

I agree that a complete cam kit with new springs and followers and spray bar is the way to go.
Also worth checking your cam bearings.

No Jos, stick with a standard cam - Well standard in the Bike Engine that you should swap it for, instead of that Pinto!
