Does anyone know if the brake drum assembly (slave cylinders,shoes,adjusters etc) could be fitted from an Escort Mk2 diff to that of a Mk1. They Look similar exept the Mk1 does not have automatic shoes adjuster. Could I a set from a Mk2 diff on a Mk1 diff?
You certainly can, the axle casings are identical.
Why bother with drums ?
Just put a set of disc's on it.

I like the disc brake option, but from the ebay link what are they referring to when they say:
"You will need to turn down the hub part of the 1/2 shaft to a diameter of 136.5mm"
I have a mk2 rear diff so I was wondering if I could do the conversion without extra cost.

The diff doesn't enter into it, the axle casing will fit brakes from most other Fords including Mk 1, 2, 3 Escorts, Fiestas, Sierras etc. but you will need the complete assembly including back plates and handbrake cables to make them work. They used the same bolt spacing on the back plates which makes the job easier for anyone wanting bigger or smaller rear drum setups, 8" or 9". The bolt holes are not evenly spaced so they will only fit in one location.

I can now supply disks that fit the standard 1/2 shaft. So no need to turn down any thing just buy and fit.
As far as i know there is no other disk kit that you can
just fit with no mods to any part of the axle.
