Lightweigt Pinto option - yes really
nick205 - 19/1/08 at 08:04 PM

Just received the latest Burton Power catalogue through the door. Flicking through I noticed that they now offer a Cosworth manufactured alloy cylinder blocl for the Pinto/Cosworth YB engine.

It's not cheap though by any means at £3,700 + VAT as a bare block. However it does offer a weight saving of 55% or 47.4kg down to 21.4kg.

Whilst I can't see too many peoplespccing it for a Pinto build it would make for a cracking Cossie YB build.

£3,700 + VAT what a waste of money, for that you could buy a new v8 or a good second hand car, personally I'd just buy a bike and have some real fun.

Roy Millington has been doing this for quite a while. I don't think Millington has a website but if you have a look for Millington Diamond Cosworth YB you might come across some references.

Came across the Millington engine in a mk2 escort based special developed by Colin McCrae - very nice

I know its a complete waste of money unless you are seriously racing and have to use the Pinto or cossie.
But that is a serious weight saving and i want one.

Have a look at this...

... then say it's a waste of time
Imagine... no more hold ups on the M5 in the summer!

darrian were the first to use the millington engine in competition (rallying) in the early 90s , the NA cossie was miles ahead of the BDA , lots more torque .

the block was also cast by holbay - and used in the ill fated GP series for 50 style machines based at donnington race track .

nice little engine , the use of a cast intermediate like the volvo (cough cough) gave height advantges and strength also

that BUrton designed one has seperate main bearing caps , and would like to say wont be as strong as millington .
