Phase 3 Zetec Water pump.
r1_pete - 23/1/08 at 01:31 PM

Not the usual thread.

I am thinking of getting a small batch of clockwise impellers made, I know a tame pattern maker, and I'm sure in Sheffield the steel city, I can find a small jobbing shop foundary, and I can do the final machining on the trusty ML7.

But for a start I need a scrap water pump from a 1.8 / 2.0 phase 3 zetec, I don't want to pull my good unit apart.

So, does anyone have a leaking, or otherwise broken pump to send me for not much more than the cost of postage?
Cheers.
Pete.

If I succeed, I'll be keeping a couple myself, the rest will be on here 1st, total cost / number made = price. I'm not out to profit, will let you know...
Cheers.

Out of interest, what is involved in making one and is it harmful to the original components you need?

I need to pull the impeller off, to get the pattern maker to copy it with the vanes going the opposite way, then get some cast in steel from the pattern.

Not really harmfull, but I thought I'd try and get a scrap unit to strip, learn how to do it, and avoid wrecking my good pump, then when I do it to the good pump I can take pics and make a few notes how to do it.

did you know you can get clockwise spinning water pumps for the black top from america?

i think they work out at about $60 or so.

Mark_Wiring will be able to tell you more.

Yes, $99 + shipping when I enquired. Not as much fun though...

think its cheaper to fit an electric waterpump on the car.

Tks

Sorry to drag this one up from the dead...

What's the situation with these reverse-spinning water pumps? Are they available now or has the re-design job gone ahead?

Cheers, Chris

Didn't bother in the end, got a wooden pattern made as far as the impeller side, but didn't want to pull my good pump apart to get the rear dims.

Went with an idler arrangement, not as elegant but it works.
