Has anyone heard of a v-tec conversion to beable to fit them rwd as they are such nice revy engines i've heard that if you connect them standard your car would be going very fast backwards ??

I've heard this too, people saying that they do rotate backwards, and some saying they don't (notably, Dave Walker from CCC). Not really into Hondas, so never bothered to find out.

Apparently, older RWD Honda boxes can be used, but again, no interest in Hondas to be able to tell you otherwise. Sorry.

I'm using a pre v-tec Honda V6 in my car, and it goes round the right way. I've heard that it's either only 4-cylinder Honda engines, or only the v-tec honda engines that rotate the wrong way. Either way, if you want to use a 4 cylinder v-tec it goes the wrong way. The exception to this rule is the new S2000 which has a 4 cylinder v-tec that goes the right way - and a RWD gearbox. How many of those in jap breakers though??

If your engine goes the wrong way, then in theory you can turn your diff up-side down and the problem's sorted.

Some people say you shouldn't do this because the diff is only designed to go one way, but I've also spoken to people who have done this and had no problems whatsoever - most notably the famous twin bike-engined 4WD tiger (as featured on 5th gear), which uses an up-side-down Sierra rear diff in the front.

I only ask because Liam made a comment that somebody has agreed with...

the wisdom seesm to be that as diffs have helical cut gears, only one side is able to load bear. also driving the oppose way will make a lotta noise as the gears are cut that way for a quiet mesh.

i have never come across anyone in two years of listing thats actually done this.

here we go again, batton down the hatch's, but......the VW bettle box was for years the choice of oval racers going mid mounted RWD who could'nt afford the hewland, trouble was without turning the diff you had 4 reverse and one forward, so the diff was turned. It would be a toss up wether the ATMO Cosworth of RV8 was the most potent engine i mounted to a Vdub box, but neither broke it with continual abuse and sat on rev limiter, drop the clutch style starts.......noise wasn't an issue in these case's but yes, they did whine a bit...
Remember one thing, the weight of these cars is a fraction of what the axles are designed to pull, so even with more power you are putting much less stress on them...

well the only car comerly available that has Vtec and is in rear wheel drive is the Honda S2000, and where I come from Honda parts are on par or more expencive than BMW parts.
Yes Honda engines rotate the oposite way to most cars but u know something.. the humble A series engine used buy British Leyland, and for alll those people who are sick of points (Bloody Lucas "prince of Darkness") people use late 70's honda civic dizzis a very cheap way of giving ur mini contactless ignition system.
