hi all, just about readyto put on my shortened sump, only need to modify my oil pick up pipe.
Does anyone know the size of the gap between this and the bottom of the sump?
Hi on most for competition use a gap of around 8-10mm is usually what it seen.
HTH cheers Matt
I've got around 8-9mm.
It seems to run alright
forgot to mention that irs a 1.8 zetec, don'y know if it makes any difference.
Thats pretty much the method i was going to use if nobody could give me an answer.
20mm seems quite a lot but hey if thats what Ford reckon then who am i to argue!

As long as the pick up is not too close to the sump and is immersed in oil at all times you shouldn't have any problems.

How close is too close?
My sump has bowed up after the welding cooled and the pickup may be quite close.

Eh?
Surely you want the pick up fully immersed at all times to prevent oil starvation?
Hi For TIN sumps Ie not cast ali. A competent engine builder would put a couple of small spacers to the required length welded to the pickup. So
that it could not sit against the floor of the sump if it should happen to be squashed ect.
Cheers Matt
