Oil cooler
Snuggs - 10/3/08 at 05:39 PM

I am fitting an oil cooler and can't decide which way up to fit it

I have found many pics of installations and some have the connection pointing downwards and some upwards.

Which way is best ?

I'll stick my neck out, not sure there is a right and wrong way as the oil is pumped around under pressure anyway ?

Maybe the purist would say in at top out at bottom like a radiator ?

I too have seen them all ways and have fitted them either way to whatever suited at the time.

Have to agree with Jon about it not mattering, despite mainly seeing them mounted with the connections at the top.

If you're got the room though why not mount it with the connections underneath to help with draining the system? Or do you risk air locks if you do that?

It makes sense to me to have the connections on the top side, so that the cooler is always full of oil.

Cheers guys

I am going to mount it with the connections at the top cos it is easier.

Clive,

how close are you to having the new engine up and running.

Hi Paul,

Another week and it should be running.

Would have been sooner but I was waiting for the new gearbox.
