What do people commonly use in a standard size locost nose?

I need cooling for 300bhp ish, and preferably room to squeze some boost pipes past :S

I know its a lot to ask and custom may be the only alternative, but I have a feeling there will be a locost way....

VW Polo or Nissan Micra seem to be popular.

volvo T5, standard to begin with, then with a RICA chip. Not going any further.

Ah the same engine my Volvo has, hmm pray you never have to strip it down, 52 bolts just to remove the rocker cover, not including all the other bits needed to be removed just to get to the bolts, that sucked . I'd be careful you don't overheat it as the head gasket is rather weak with very little metal between the bores and it’s a wet liner engine as well so the gasket has little support, oh and never wash the engine with a hose as water will collect in the spark plug holes as the coil packs don't seal the bore properly. I had to do my neighbours one after he blew the gasket, what normally takes me 2 nights to do took 3 weeks! Right pig of a job and did my back in leaning over the engine bay. Oh what a merry little engine...

nice sound though

RazMan - 17/3/08 at 02:05 PM

The Polo is a surprisingly effective rad - I believe there is such a thing as a Polo sport which has a thicker core.

My V6 is icy cold on a Polo rad

alistairolsen - 17/3/08 at 02:13 PM

What v6 is that?

Polo sport, hrmmm. Wonder how thick that is, that standard one isnt thick at all!

Also: what era of polo are we talking here?

My V6 is a Duratec 2.5 which runs a little too cool in winter.
I think the rad comes from a late 90's Polo - if you do a search I think you will find a part number in a recent thread.

I was given GSF (German Swedish French ) part no 867- 121-253E. for Mk 2 Polo. It does look quite small on a +4 but haven't tried it yet. About £40 I think

cossiebri - 17/3/08 at 04:16 PM

I've just got a new rad from gsf- used a golf mk3 1.4L same size as polo rad but twice as thick cost £38+vat
gsf part no 17432 430x320mm rad
