lightened flywheel for volvo whiteblock
alistairolsen - 28/3/08 at 04:47 PM

Does anyone know where I can get one?

Im not keen on machined std flywheels, and the one on the end of a T5 lump is irritatingly heavy even in a 1500kg saloon car, never mine something less than half the weight!

cheers

Can’t say I noticed, sure it's not the throttle damper; I notice that modern cars are getting slower and slower with the butterfly movement closing which makes me crash the gears. I usually chuck them in the bin stupid things

Some modern cars Do NOT drop the revs unless you touch the brake first.
That is why some manufacturers say in their operating books do not slow down through the gears use the brakes instead.

What gearbox are you using? I'm using an M90, the flywheel I have is dual mass and is v heavy. I'm after the "dogdish" flywheels, just need to find one now.

i take it you have a dual mass one ?

buy a later T5/R one which is solid and 240mm clutch diameter .

otherwise see me .

DO WANT

Volvorsport - 28/3/08 at 05:37 PM

a bit less than £200 .

But you have to have a 7/ 1/4 racing clutch to go with it .

the volvo flywheels are pretty good , the std flat flywheels can be lightened but not much , and weigh about half a ton less than the dual mass versions , so unless your on a high hp budget id stick with a 5cyl clutch/flywheel .

i can get flywheels made to fit std clutchs aswell , but how much weight will it lose ?

Just an odd thought:
Wouldn't the 4 cylinders whiteblock flywheel fit?
I assume these are lighter then the 5 cylinders ones...

Volvorsport - 28/3/08 at 07:11 PM

pretty much the same - the idea is to miss out the dual mass one , and fit a solid flywheel .

alistairolsen - 30/3/08 at 10:32 AM

do you have any figures for the weights of the dual mass and solid flywheel handy? How much does the one shown for a race clutch com out at?

What do you reckon one similar, but for a standard clutch would cost?

cheers

not measured it but you can definitely feel it .

same price for a std flywheel type .

what do you think the volvo ones are made of ? its pretty good .

alistairolsen - 30/3/08 at 03:37 PM

What do you mean what is the volvo one made from?
