Steve
lol , KISS !
When my car was on the rollers the collectors on each bank were glowing a bright red which was scary at the time
With normal road use I would be surprised if they could get that hot due to the extra airflow - turbos however are a different story.
saw this earlier an thought it fits in nicely with this post! plus it looks cool
after about 40 seconds ull start to see what i mean!

Quite normal but usually after a good thrashing![]()
red, mine tend to glow orange
Few of my mates have turbo tintops and they glow red when they're thrashed.

Yep -- On a non-turbo engine it is generally a sign of ignition is too retarded the excess het is caused by the combustion being incomplete before
the exhaust vavle opens as a result a higher percentage of combustion heat energy is rejected to the exhaust.
Turbos are a bit different and will get a buld up of heat after being thrashed which can cook the oil in the turbo bearing drastically shortening
turbo life..
With a turbo you should :
(1) Always allow the turbo to cool down after a hard drive -- ideally drive quietly for half a mile or so and allow to idle for up to a minute before
switch off.
(2) Use a top quality synthetic oil.
