RV8 Water Pump
Paradoxia0 - 19/4/08 at 09:42 PM

Hi All

I gave in and bought a new water pump for my Rover V8 as the old one had started grumbling and throwing rusty water out behind the pulley.

The new one I got for a reasonable price off eBay and is a perfect, fit (just the nose is designed for a viscous coupling and I am running electric fans so not being used).

The only issue I have with it is that it is dripping water out of the small hole in the underside of the "nose" (where the pulley is attached) and the old one never used to... his dripping starts when the water starts to get hot. If the engine is revved quite fast then the dripping stops, but back at idle it starts dripping again. The old water pump has the same small hole but never dripped from it.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
Would it be helpful for me to post a picture to help explain??

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am desperate to get the car sorted ready for heading over to Stoneleigh!

Thanks in advance

Mark

That sounds like a duff pump. I had to change the pump on my rangie when it started doing that

not sure I'd bother trying to buy a waterpump off of ebay. strikes me as asking for trouble, and yes, dripping through that hole is when you replace the pump!

bad luck.

Grrr....

I purchased the water pump from an eBay shop and it is (apparently) new and definitely looks new too.

I have dropped them an email askking what is wrong with it and see what their response is. As it is faulty and they sold it as new I will at least get a full refund from paypal....

The best place i have found for Rover V8 Engine parts is Riverside Allterrain at Boston he always is able to undercut everyone else by quite a considerable amount it is worth giving them a call

I emailed the seller today and he has agreed it sounds like a faulty pump. If I return it he will check it and send me another one if it is faulty so I really cannot compain (so far!) apart from the hastle of fitting a pump twice!

Fingers crossed!

Update:

The eBay shop replaced the faulty pump for a good one and the car is now running nicely again! See, sometimes there are good guys on eBay!

car water pumps (P5/P6/SD1) are diffferent to the range rover ones.

(actually for the hard core RR spotters the very first RRs had P6 engine so will have the same pumps).
