At the stage of filters and bonnet bulges
what filter offers best performance/lowest price/ easiest SVA?
other point is that my pinto is not as low as it shoud be!!!!!
hi jumpy, are you using the original air box atop the engine? I'll have a problem with it soon myself. Was trying to work out how best to make a
replacement in less space, and maybe use an cone filter.
does anyone know if changing the filter would change the vacuum effect significantly enough to affect the vacuum advance on the distributor?

thought of running some ducting from the top o the carb, hide the cone filter somewhere under the bonnet, and fitting some serious ducting to get
fresh air in to it...
Is this possible/practical?
Have a look at 'Donut' s pics , he is using a pinto with (he's just found out) a 1600 carb.
might give you a few ideas

Sorry, I didn't realise he hadn't put em up here

I have now uploaded 3 images of my air filter fitted to a 1600 carb although the engine is a 2 litre!! ..don't ask!
Check them out in my image archive under 'donut'

problem is - my engine is higher than yours, i think...
so, could i run ducting and put the filter somewhere else?
hi andy, did you make that or buy it? looks good! just what the doctor ordered.
The filter is from ITG although the plate it sits on was hand made but you can buy them.
Jumpy guy, i see you are building by the book which may be the reason why your carb will sit proud. The chassis on an Indy is 1" higher than a
book locost. I can't see how you could duct air in as there is no room, even on an Indy. I have seen pics of locosts with pinto engines where the
front of the engine actually sticks out of the bonnet and nose cone!!!!
One thing i was going to do was to put a peice of the wifes tights over the inlets and have a small scoop on the bonnet to draw air into the carb
through a small hole (bit bigger than the inlets). Personally i like seeing the filter sticking out the bonnet.

Can anyone suggest what kind of filter I can fit on my 1.8 pinto based MK Indy?
My bonnet has a bulge which I hope will help.
How much should I be thinking about paying for a filter?
Simplest solution is to look at something like a pipercross filter or K&N. If you speak to demon tweaks (I know there dear) but the can supply
these with a Blank base(Universal) , from this you cut the hole to fit the carb.
These filters can be ordered in a l x W x H sort of format so you should be able to get something to fit.
Some of the bigger ones might fit twin carb setups as well,
Also saw same idea on the west field parts pages, but it had westfield logo on it.
Works well I had one on my Suzuki 4x4
