Bike versus car power
Macca - 30/6/02 at 07:28 PM

I'm new to this locost thing and currently I'm spending my time doing some back ground work before taking the plunge.I do have one small problem though that I can't decide on, which engine? My heart say's bike but my pocket say's car. This is mainly due to the fact I already have a 2.9 24v cossy engine sitting in the garage awaiting a new home.Looking for some comments that may help tip the scales either way.All comments/views welcome.

Cheers.

As I said in a post a couple days back, apart from money, what do you want in a car?

If you want lightning fast, revvy howling engine with maximum low weight performance, its gotta be bike.

If you want less power and more growl, use a ford V6 like me.

I have the cologne V6 2.4 fitted in an 87 granada.

As far as I have read, the V6 cossie is good for 200hp? That sounds good to me! If you dont want it, let me know, I might evict my V6 for it!

If you want bike speed, buy a bike. Wasting a bike engine in a car (even a Locost) is sacrilege!

Just kidding, had to put that one in as a comfirmed bike loving Locost builder. From what I can tell, the bike engine is the most convenient way to go.. but at a cost. And if you start investigating that route, don't forget about the gearbox... not many bikes have reverse ya know!

My personal opinion is that an engine in a car that will rev to 14000rpm and sound like a banshee has gotta be a good thing! But the Locost is gonna be pretty quick no matter what you put in it.

Thanks for the comments. I need to find the "for sale" section.
