Guess the Pinto Damage
The Baron - 9/5/08 at 06:16 PM

After blowing my Pinto up during my SVA noise test, I have just stripped the engine down ready to lift it out in the morning.

Upon removing the exhaust, the exhaust port for No2 has a very sticky, gooey witch what can only be described as tar like residue. All the others are the typical carbon type residue.

Anyone what to guess what’s broken; before I take the head off tomorrow in the sunshine.

At the time ‘when she blew’ there was lots of blue oily smoke coming from the exhaust, and the engine breathers, and lots of knocking.

Cheers,

B

She failed on a couple of trivial things which I have now put right. i managed to get another engine (condition unknown!) which i shall fit tomorrow.

Yes, it was very loud!!!

Once I know the new engine is OK, i shall book the retest.

I guess valve bounce damaged valve and guide possible piston crown.

Did it have a "peaky" cam if so I guess the centre bearing support in the head has broken followed by a snapped cam and subsequent valve damage.
