Noise
The Baron - 12/5/08 at 05:35 PM

The final thing to correct from my SVA fail list is NOISE!!!!

I peaked at 102 db (before my engine blew up, oil pump failure followed by head gasket)

I have a non re-packable silencer from Robin Hood. I've inserted one of those baffle things from CBS, but I’m still not convinced it’s any quieter.

I was thinking about packing steel wool around the baffle, is there any other tricks I can do?

Cheers,

B

A decibel killer will do the trick,it will knock off around 5 db's,they are very effective.

Use a tacho which over-reads

IE the noise test is done on indicated rpm not actual....

They're not stupid. They check your tacho is accurate.

Limit the throttle pedal travel... wonder if they've thought of that one!

They don't run it at WOT do they? They simply open the throttle to get the required RPM with no engine load, so the throttle will be at a very small opening anyway.
