Getting timing right... how to?
chrsgrain - 27/5/08 at 05:36 PM

Hi all...

very happy now that the new Red Top is in and running, but the exhaust is v. hot, and there is some run on after I switch the ignition off....

Not been out for a run in it yet (got to put the electrics and steering back together!), but my guess is that the timing is a bit out - I set it to 10 deg BTDC as best as I could with a timing wheel - but does it sound like it could do with going back a bit, and how do I best get it right?

Thanks! By the way running a pretty much standard dizzy...

Chris

The 20XE never came with a distributor that controlled timing (just did spark distribution and cam phase), are you using one from an 8V Cavalier?

Ah - yes, effectively an 8v cav one, but got a reconditioned one...
