rich201283 - 2/12/03 at 05:01 PM

i have everything set up with the correct dizzy and electronic module

the back axle is off an escort 1300 and its struggleing at 75mph

wot can be the cause of this

will fitting 2.0 carbs make it much powerfuller?

erm

it sounds like something on what you currently have, is, as we say in the technical world, SHAGGED.

sort the problem - dont change the carbs

How accurate is the speedo?
Is the Pinto on a four speed box?
Does the engine sound right, or does it miss/falter etc?

It aint going to break any land speed records anyway, but 1300 gearing and a *possibly* inaccurate speedo may be hiding the truth....

it sounds ok and the spedo is right, it pulls okay in 1st 2nd 3rd but 4th and 5th it is quite sluggish

will changing the carbs make it faster

rich201283 - 3/12/03 at 12:15 AM

oh yeah it has a type 9 box

Maybe a compression test is in order, either that or get a 2.0 litre, they're cheep as chips, to coin a phrase.

Cheers

You say it pulls well, does that mean it accelerates quickly but tops out in 5th? IE it could be the diff ratio is too low.

I have a copy of the Dutton mag somewhere that covers this sort of thing including the likely mph per 1000 revs dependant upon gearing/diff ratio/tyre diameter. Let me know if you think this would help.
Cheers
Pete

my baby is 2.0 and hits a brick wall at 60,it takes a lot to get past that so you may be a little down on power and they are as aerodynamic as a brick anyway
