Revs and Zetec

What is the safe revs limit for a 1.8 silver top zetec?

I've hit 8000 a few times today and thought I might be pushing it a bit too hard.

I used to take my 2L to 7200 on a regular basis and did so for 6 years. Wouldnt go further than that without a set of ARP con rod bolts myself

If that's on a stock bottom end and flywheel then I'd have to agree!

The US "NASA Spec Focus" race series people seem to think that the stock oil pump gears are unsafe above above ~7400 RPM for starters...

Rev it till it goes bang and then back off a couple of hundred revs.......

I`ve been wondering what the `safe` maximum revs should be for my V6 - it pulls hard up to the self-imposed 7800 limit , but is that too high ?

Mmmmmm 8000 might be a bit too much

My rev limiter is set around 7200-7300. i was advised a few years ago that it will go to around 7500 happily but I don't much fancy risking it!!

Thanks I'll back off a bit and look at fitting a rev limiter.

Saw a Zetec failure at the Cadwell 750 meeting just gone. Suspected piston failure, rod then had a damn good go at cutting the engine in half. Very messy. He said that he'd upped the limiter to 7700 from memory, which is the about where it went apparently.

Is it possible to programme your Megasquirt to limit revs?

Thats what I`m using - but it does say something about it not being suitable for EDIS ?

Biggest danger over reving is the valves touch -- bent valves might to be be obvious at first the engine just looses its edge particularly when pulling hard from low revs in a high gear.
