rad hi people..
being a BEC and thinking to losse some weight i want to change my copper rad from a Fiat 127 for an polo one but cant see an easy way to mount it on a
velocity XT any one ideaas/ tips how to do it??
regards,
Tks
do you have the polo rad, i have one spare if you need it,
i mounted mine on a small rail across the front and then tapped the top holes and screwed them into brackets that were rivetted to the chassis.
Ditto
A bar or rail is a nice idea. I just used four bits of bar (one into each mount point on the rad). Kind of like a X mounting if you see what I mean.
Works well.
I used strips of alu plate to mount mine . You can see one mounting point on the top rail in this pic
Top hose plumbing
There's two more mounts coming off the downtubes picking up on the lower mounting holes on the rad, and being in the vertical plane rather than
horizontal like the top ones, it holds it all very rigidly even with the additional weight of the oil cooler hanging off the front.

Ali strips and angle to support pegs on bottom then easy brackets for top and M6 bolts threaded into top position holes.

Not a '7' but a Polo rad in my single seater. I only have one mounting point per side so I have an ali bracket coming off both the rad
mounting points.
Sorry but this is the best photo I can get without taking the engine out!

Cheap and nasty solution
Rad mount
Rad mount 2
The triangular brackets are off the shelf from DIY store.
To close off the 8mm radiator pipe, I slid on a piece of 8mm petrol pipe with a hose clip and then screwed an 8mm screw into thye end
M3 or M4 bolt self tapped into the 8mm bleed on top of rad, handy when filling rad for 1st time to loose the air lock.
I did try the macbeast way 1st but the nose cone is a tight fit so the bolt worked fine.
BMF has a number of pics in his archive showing the standard polo rad mounts on his velocity chassis..
