My engine block looks nasty and horrible. Ive just had my sump modified (cheers again keith(lukefab)) and it looks great so ive decided to clean that
up nice and shiny (hopefully). But my block and rocker cover are going to let me down. I dont want to put a nasty looking block in my car... so what
would you all say is the best way of getting it nice and clean to a painting point? (going either black or silver)
Cheers

Spray on degreaser and work in with a paint brush. Once all the grease is off wire brush off loose paint and ready for repaint. Just a note...I used spray Plasticote on my cam cover, the finish is very good and seems to be able to handle the heat OK.
Yep degreaser followed by Mr Muscle oven cleaner followed by solvent, white spirit or cellulose thinner then good paint. I did mine with hammerite
primer followed by smoothrite, seems good and solid.

Nitromors paint stripper (B&Q) works very well, will get off old paint and burnt on oil, just be careful with it cos its viscious stuff!

If your engine is fully stripped then if you have a local engine rebuild/refurb type place near you get the block hot dip cleaned, not only brings the exterior up, but the inside as well. Cleans out all the crap. HTH Ray
