As per the subject which one??? I was originally going to head towards a pre '95 2.0 ST zetec but there seems to be a distinct lack of them about
or near to me, but in no shortage of blacktops. Was going to use something along the lines of GSX-R 750 TB's with fast road cams and lightened n
balanced bottom end, with all the associated bolts and bearings.
I have both gearboxes MT75 and a type 9 which one would be a wiser option running this set up, and will the 75 and its prop mate up with a T9 diff or
are the flanges different, i would look for myself but its right at the back of my shed and there are only 24 hours in a day!?
Also what lil bits and pieces will i be needing to run the zetecs starters etc, i know the simple things like the water rail and pump drive as well as
the clutch?!
Any help appreciated
John
You only need a pre aug 95 engine if you want to sva with carbs or /and no cat.
There are differances but nothing to stop you using the black top.
As for gearbox, ive used the mt75 for two reasons
1) easy to move gearchange
2)it will handle lots of torque
That said.
There are lots of people running 200+bhp zetecs on a type 9
Type 9 clutch stuff is cheaper
Mt75 needs a release bearing spacer 0f about 20mm and westfield the only suplyer will relieve you of about £70
Prop for the mt75 is dearer aswell.
you don't *need* a water rail...can fit a zetec of any type without one...
blacktop pros:
steel sump so easy to shorten
supposedly slightly higher power
blacktop cons:
need to sort out water pump idler (or replacement impellor)
silver top pros:
water pump straight swap
short sump available off the shelf
silvertop cons:
price of modified sump as the standard unit is a single piece of alloy
slightly less power
Apart from numerous other revisions one "feature" was using solid shims rather than hydraulic lifters. So the engine will rev higher than a silvertop before suffering valve float etc.
