Most people try to get 100mm clearance - good enough for all but the worst speed bumps.

I think i heard somewhere 4" but im afraind mine might be lower

I've got about 4 finger's worth of clearance, whatever that measures out to be?....bit low but with a bit of common sense and forward planning it's been no problem so far - one wheel over the speed humps seems to work.

Four of my (fat) fingers = 3"

My xe is about 50mm. Scoops up horse poo big time and look out for the loose cats eyes.

80mm on my car.....

50mm on the sump sounds super shallow. Can a steel sump take a good knock and still survive?...

depends where you live, on my locost I can only use it on about 30% of the roads here

I bought a 1/4 " ally plate that I want to put under mine (I have about 3 1/2", that I need to get bent by someone. Downsides are:

a) adds weight
b) reduces the clearance

but has the advantage of peace of mind if I do hit something.

My XE has around 70mm clearance, and I haven't hit anything yet in 1000 or so miles, including the several speed bumps at work, clears fine.

As my bodywork is the stuart taylor stuff which is an inch lower than the MK you should have no trouble....

but I am using a Caterham HPC wet sump which is only the same depth as the flywheel teeth externally, basically, the sump, type 9 box and flywheel are all more or less the same height (flywheel obviously a couple of mm inside of the rest!)
