New Nissan GT-R

Was thinking about Clarkson's comment last night about the gearbox being linked to a specific engine.

Why would they do this? I can't think of any benefit other than more servicing cost when it goes wrong.

My first thought at the time was: Oh God, that's gonna make it harder to use as a donor!
I hope other manufacturers don't go this way!

Appreciate that this problem maybe goes away with a custom ECU.

Cheers,
James

Ohh..yes...tolerances and tuning of maps...

No just this, but the Sat Nav automatically limits the power and speed until it detects you are *on* a racetrack. It then allows you to unlease the car's full potential.

As I understand it, there are a few tuning houses over there that have already gotten over this speed bump...

i thought he meant they were built to work with a specific engine, as in matched for the nengine's individual power curves or something. not necessarily that a gearob just wouldn't work with any other engine.
though when he said it i did think the same thing

funny car that, all full of technology, i really really want one, sooooo much lol, look great from all angles, but soooooo ugly from straight head on

Goodness me. Nissan would get on well with our big brother government here!

So how does that work if you get an import! It got *every* track in its system globally?

Daft!

Cheers,
James

Actually when viewed directly from the front this one at Goodwood was rather pleasing on the eye

Probally just a security thing, my old range rover ECU cannot be swapped between cars to prove faults due to this.

Its a pita, stops small garages from working by forcing people to use main dealers.
