
R1 or Fireblade?
Currently running R1`s on a 2L Pinto which are in need of an overhaul, but have the option of a cheap set of Blades.
What to do?
If the blade carbs are cheap, you haven't much to loose buying and trying....
Whats wrong with R1's that a clean wont put right??
Got 2 cracked float bowls and missing idle mixture screw (screws on order) but may get the Blade carbs for £25 of a relative, which I will try when he gets to the UK but was wondering if there are any issues with them, i.e the R1`s are almost plug and play so hope the Blades are after jetting.
My older ZZR's were almost plug and play so ill guess anything newer will be too.
Built in throttle sensor is nice to have if you have an option (makes change to megajolt easier at a later date).
How bad are the float bowls? Can they not be repaired with JB weld? Following usual cleanliness rules and roughing up surface and that stuff is fantastic. Worth trying for £4 or so. Read the packet or website, its amazing what that stuff has been used for before.

The manifold you have is made for ZZR carbs (as it used to be DarrenW's) so may be worth investigating

I have Fireblade carbs (Keihin I think)on my Skoda trials car and Dave Bogg of Bogg Bros, (the bike carb on car engine experts) said he prefers the Yamaha (are they Mikuni) carbs as they are easier to tune. The needle has a number of grooves with a circlip that allows for adjustment of the positioning of the needle. Mine just have a packer washer that can be removed but not as variable.

ZX6Rs have 37.5mm Mikunis with TPS, and are dead cheap.
They work well on my Zetec.

Yes its only in very early stages they moved me to work in the UK so I have a bit of time now :-) did try not having a car to fiddle with but couldnt
dot it.
I think you would be best with the ZZR carbs if you can get the rubbers as they will go straight on the manifold. You should also be able to get a
fair wack for the R1 carbs Ill have a look in my garage i may have a spare float bowl kicking arround which could be of use
Yeah, I may have got the names round the wrong way for the carbs. As I said, mine were ex Fireblade but they go like stink on my Skoda engine now. Well worth the effort.
the 80s early 1990s gk i think series of gsxr 750 and 1000s also use kenghin carbs which fit pinto s a treat if you go for the later ones they also
have a handy throttle position sensor just right for a megajolt programable wasted spark ignition system
also those carbs are always cheap on ebay think the last ones we used came off a slabside 750
