I had the car on a rolling road yesterday and got a dead regular peak of 83BHP crank at around 4800 RPM on my Pinto 1600 with twin webber 40s. This
was a first run and the carbs are probably not jetted right. What do you think I should be able to get when this is set up properly?

I cant say what you should get on twin 40s but mine on 30/34 (I think it was ) setup proply made a whole 78bhp when it was done
put an XE in it??
Time to see the light and go BEC
Is the 40's the only mod???
If so i reckon thats not bad seen worse out of "preped " 2.0l

wot NS Dev and stevieB said...
Get it jetted properly then
also, think about getting the ignition setup properly, i think you should easily be able to see 100bhp with that
engine.
Easier then doing an engine swap, full stop.

Bog stock 1.6 Pinto makes 75bhp. Non injected 2.0 makes 101bhp. All as bolted into the Cortina / Sierra.
To be fair, maybe 90 horses, tops with the webers ?
Stick a zetec in there. It's the easiest solution.
83 ponies in a car that weighs little more than a crisp packet will still wee off most
of the Corsa boys
I don't feel so bad about my F1-2 now!
Only a 1.4 K-series inj and getting 105 bhp at the crank.
Also only £120 road tax!
You've all got it wrong
PUT A JAG ENGINE IN IT
Go V8. Buy medallion, and chest wig.
Mans engine.
i had a two litre pinto and that did 100 at the flywheel and 75 at the rubber bits.

As said, 83bhp sounds about right. My stock rebuilt 2.0 with DGV weber, K&N filter and tubular manifold etc made 107bhp on the rollers by comparison.
Was that 83 bhp at the wheels or crank?
If at the wheels, that's a good result for a small Pinto. If at the crank, I'd suggest getting the jetting sorted or even stick a 2.0
injection head on it with the 40s. Should get you closer to 90 / 95.

The number you get also depends on the rolling road you take it to so absolute figures can be rather misleading.
There are lots around that give wildly over optimistic readings because that's what customers want to tell people at the pub, and the rather less
impressive 'real' numbers from a properly calibrated road will just lose them customers. Conversely some will give you a real number in the
hope of getting some work tuning it up.
So long as this is understood and the operator doesn't 'cheat' between runs it's fine for testing incremental improvements. But I
wouldn't get too hung up on the number you're given so long as the engine is pulling strongly and you are happy with the actual road
performance.
Well that sounds not too bad. Right now I am running F16 correctors with 120 jets , 40F9 Idles and 30mm Chokes. Looking at Dave Andrews article he
reckons 135 main jets and 34 chokes. Any one got any other suggestions or places to look? Also anyone have any 33 or 34 chokes for 40s they want to
sell and a set of medium slot in trumpets for 40s? My bolt ons were judged unsuitable as they flare too slowly.
TIA

ditch the 40's and fit some bike carb's the price is about the same after messin about with jets and belive me the differance in cold starting and running in general is unbelivable
