Ford FWD Gearboxes?
coozer - 10/8/08 at 01:52 PM

Anyone know which FWD Ford box has the starter in a good position for a RWD application?

I ask as I want to use the front half of the box to make a adapter bellhousing to mate my Supra box to a zetec.

Anyone got any knowledge/advise or even a one local I can have cheap??

Same theme as bilbo's Rover to type 9 conversion..

Thanks,
Steve

Couldn't you use a scrap MT75? Looking at the mondeo, escort and focus manuals I've aquired the starters all seem to be up high...

I'm after a FWD box because the bellhousing is about an inch or two shorter, that gives me room to use an adapter plate to join the Toyota box.

Plan is a St170 engine mated to the Toyota box, it has nice ratios and a much better shift than a type 9, oh, and it can handle 600bhp!

I remeber that the old mk1 festers had starter at the front beside the exhaust about mid way down the block if thats any use!!!

I remember well cos burnt a new coat off downpipe when the solonoid wire dropped off one night in mcd's drive through

You must be planning some pretty serious tuning on the Zetec then
