Points will start to play up once you hit 6000rpm, so its most likely your problem.
If you want to rev it harder you need to go for an electronic system, either a stock one or a custom built one from someone like H&H Ignition
Solutions.

Ford (ie Autolite or Fomoco branded) or Bosch distrubter (brown cap) ?
The points gap on the Ford (ie Autolite or Fomoco branded) distibuters tend to close up in the first few miles use --- cheap branded after market
points are worse for this.
To combat this make sure the distributer cam is greased and the points are gapped to the top end of specified range (0.23" to 0.27"
.
Bosch dizzies use a narrower gap.
Also make sure the condenser retaning is screw is tight on the base plate and he wires to the points are correctly fitted, and give the centrafugal
adavance mech a tiny drop of oil.
Also check the carb jets are screwed home tight in the carb body --- amazing how often you find a loose jet in a weber carb.
However it could be a fuel flow problem -- IMHO Filter Kings are snake oil, the fuel pump should be selected that suits the carbs without any extra
gubbins.
You really should try and identify the cam -- and find the peak power and peak torque rpm. istr a standard Pinto has peak power at 5,000 rpm -- even
by the standards of 1970 that wasn't high.
My pinto does exactly the same thing, runs like a dream until 6000rpm - I put it down to the rev limiter though!
