power loss?
MK chippy - 21/8/08 at 05:43 PM

hi guys,

looking at new rules coming in next year the main 1 seems to be a reverse gear must be fitted (or somethin like that anyways).
im looking at fitting a fireblade engine into an mk indy and was wondering how much power you can get from a blade and how much of it will be lost through having a reverse box? Cheers

Dave

Opinions seem to vary on the power losses through a reverse box ranging from 1 - 2bhp loss up to as high as 10 - 12% (which i dont believe for one second).

If i had to fit reverse myself then i'd go for the electric version myself anyway which is cheaper and results in no power losses - just means carrying the extra weight

I know MNR do one but there are a few others too. Best leave this one for others to answer as i've not looked into it too much myself yet (and am hoping i dont have to with the new IVA when that comes in.)

Might be worth a search on here for more info

Andy Bates @ AB Performance does a good one.

Do you want to reverse up a hill ? If so then a Quaife is the only way to go.

Could it not accidentally fall off after SVA, or is it a "law"?
