Choke size - locost option

I currently have these in my garage, won for 0.99p + £6 post aaages ago:

The trumpets go from 39.5mm tapered to 34mm chokes.

I have a 2.0 pinto with the obligatory 4 branch but nowt else. It currently has a weber downdraft and ford electronic ignition. It runs but the carb positioning means a hole in the top of the bonnet which I refuse to do

I bought the carbs with a view to running MJLJ with them and being done with the lot. I can't get rid of the carb alone and run the ford ecu as it's linked to the carb and stepper motor etc, and my question is...

Choke size enough or not? bearing in mind they are already in my possesion and I don't really want to spend money I don't need to. So long as I get 100+ fwhp on them I'm not too bothered that R1 units would get another 2.7 bhp etc etc

Your thoughts please..

Thanks
Stott

Chokes are plenty big enough yes. Plenty of Zetec's will be running around with 34 mm chokes i'm sure!!

The choke size for a standard 2.0 pinto on the above website is 38mm, and 34mm for a standard 1600 pinto.

So they may technically be a little small but they would probably work fine , certainly pass a lot more air than a downdraught weber , and keep up good gas speed through the range to give good throttle response.

How often are we really at full throttle ? , we mainly drive at part openings.

My old 2.0l Zetec car ran on 36mm chokes and was rolling roaded at 173bhp so you should be fine. I actually took the original 38mm ones out as they were too big - affecting driveability low down in the rev range.

State of tune might make advising you a bit easier but plenty are using carbs off a 600cc bike on 2L engines
