I took my second attempt at SVA today and just as I was about to fail the emissions test (CO of about 6.5%) one of the cooling hoses let go in
spectacular fashion.
Since then I have found that the thermostat was not opening properly.
However after replacing this it still gets hot when revving without moving the car.
(Note that the car does not struggle with overheating while driving, even with the faulty thermostat)
So on an effort to do everything to keep the engine cool while its being revved without moving, is there a benefit in fitting a second fan rather than
replacing an existing one. So that I have a pusher and a puller.
Any other hints on keeping the engine cool during the SVA would be much appreciated.

2 fans arranged like that will reduce the air flow because they will fight each other
Might be worth trying a bottle of Water Wetter , not a cure but will reduce the temperature by as much a 20 degrees.
What if I used two pull fans would that work?
Also would using a push and a pull fan not be similar driving with a pull fan? (With the push fan simulating the air travel from driving)
Yes, I will add water wetter as well.

Yes, sorry I did mean pusher in front and puller behind.
I initially thought it was an airlock as well, but could not find it. But then I have not heard of other Zetecs having a problem with heat, so I might
have another look at this as well.
THis is with a Micra rad (I believe that other people have used this succesfully with a zetec)
I run 2 puller fans without a problem. Was the rad new or used.
Maybe not circulating quick enough if the core is restricted. Have you checked the flow at the header tank ?
it was a second hand rad.
I thougth that slow circulation may be the problem due to worn water pump.
Was hoping/thinking that this was not the problem, as I actually drove the mondeo donor for a few years.
How do I test the flow?
You have a 2L Zetec - all becomes clear i think!! Whats the arrangement of the belt around the water pump now you have removed the air con pump?? Odds
on you are running your water pump in reverse - you need to swap it for one out of a 1.8L Zetec which rotates the opposite way!!

Sorry to disappoint you Paul. I have fitted a idler pulley so that the water pump runs of the back of the belt.
Also as I have a blacktop I don't think a 1.8l pump would fit.
However having just done some research it seems that the micra rad I have fitted is from a 82-88 1.0l Micra, and I think that this may not be able to
cope with the 2.0l zetec (at least not when stood still and revving)
Can someone confirm whether the rad is too small?
