Any ideas whos making dry sump kit for it?
Have you tried the VW tuners/specialists?
Demon Tweeks may have a kit?
If needed let me know and I will sort you a list of possible places to harass (last completed project was a 1.8t into a VW caddy van).
I would really apreciate that if you can....!!!
try JBS autodesigns, backdraft motorsport, or dahlback racing as a few i know are into 450-800bhp 1.8t monsters and i know backdraft also race
theirs.
Adam
JBS is a good place to start, Badger5 racing, Jabbasport, Forge Motorsport.
I had a nose about on some forums and the stateside lot seem to have looked into it in more depth than over here but it sure isn't going to be
cheap no matter what.
Out of interest, why do you want to do it?
Just wanted to be at the safe side of the engine, but i was told that for the 320 hp,wont having any issues with out a dry kit...........
You certainly don't need a dry sump kit for 320bhp on a 1.8t. Depending on engine model and how you have achieved the power figure your money would be better spent elsewhere.
thanks again!!
as said 320bhp is a managable figure for the 1.8t's but which way round are you mounting it or is this just your own car?
Its going in my westy...(hopefully)
Sounds like a great project. So you would be rotating the engine 90 degrees? This is where you may need a dry sump as the engine is built to allow oil to slosh side to side but if you change the rotation it may starve the engine in which case you may want a dry sump as turbo cars like the 1.8t are probably more sensitive with the turbo oil feed keeping the turbo lubricated and healthy. Maybe a sump from a audi 4 where its mounted the other way round would be a possible solution.
Youre right, the ones that the First A4 had...but if i go to that route,i first have to sell all the parts i allready bought for the LET,wisecos, forged rods, coscast with SBD valvetrain,SBD dry sump...etc etc
You don't need a dry sump. You change to a longitudinal sump and pickup. You can convert all 1.8t from transverse to longitudinal and vise versa
using parts from the opposite engine. Internally, they are fundamentally the same bar pin sizes, small or big porting, and rumours that certain
1.8t's had forged pistons from factory. If you are concerned with oil surge, baffles are available.
What engine code is your 1.8t?
dont know the code, but it came off a 2003 S3,but as said need to sell the parts that allready have and then buy it.....
Hmmm, if you have all of those parts for the LET, why sell them for a 1.8t? You have enough there for a strong build.
A 53 S3 engine is going to be 225 bhp IIRC and with a remap 270bhp. But you will have to either run stand alone management or adapt your car to run
the drive by wire throttle. Adapt the engine to make it a longitudinal set up and then what gearbox will you use?
most likely a BAM or AMK. Got a BAM in my Leon Cupra R, if you need to know what yours is its stamped in the service book/ stamped under the engine cover
Stamped on the flat part of the integrated lifting eye on the head if not on a sticker on the timing belt cover.
I was ony thinking to sell the parts that i have and get the VW just for reability issues cause the VW is a "fresh" motor with a clever and safe ecu,if i dont find to sell the parts in good prices, ill build the LET,,,i allready have the T5,MBE 967,only need the bellhousing and a light flywheel....
I would stick with the LET. VW's are reliable in stock form or with a remap but can suffer problems, one being that on a remap the std turbo is running a lot higher psi than std, this can be a weak spot, the oil pump can be another, and heavily modded/boosted engines will do head gaskets in and in some cases and taking into consideration alloy heads, warpage meaning continual failure. Not to mention holed pistons and the usual failures associated with modded turbo'd engines. Get the bellhousing and a flywheel and get building!
sorry to bring hat again up...but havent made up my mind yet.....just wondering IF gonna fit the VW,any one has a clue, why no one manage to fit a T5 box to that engine?ive read above that the Netherland company tried first and they thought the bolt patern was the same with the Type9,but its not...you thing it worths a try even custom CNC constraction to adapt the T5....or buy a Type9 and through a gear kit in it.....which will end up deeper in the pocket though.....
What do you know, I always assumed that T5's had the same bolt pattern on the bellhousing as the others! You learn something every day.
Maybe because the T5 is expensive to buy to begin with whereas a type 9 or MT75 is not. Type 9's will not take the power of the 1.8t as std
whereas the MT75 will.
The way I see it is you have a few options -
1.) Buy a T5 and risk it being in GWO
2.) Buy a type 9 and uprate it and but the conversion bellhousing
3.) Buy a MT75 and my sadly unused conversion kit to fit it to the 1.8t (nudge nudge wink wink)
i thought it had the same patern too...but if i finally go to the 1.8T route, will be a custom CNC adaptor i quess...1 way street...
the T5 will bolt to the bellhouse made by tiger holland. T9 and T5 have the same patern to the bellhouse. Email Henry and he will answer your questions. He just got a tiger through SVA with the 1.8t
weird,,they were saying that the though its the same, but it wasnt....ill mail them
You are right,it says it does bolts....my fault it says
T5 box would fit our bellhousing, however, this box has another bolt pattern.)
No if it has different patern, where the proplem will be? due different deegres?
sorry mate, dont understand. Im going to see him tomorow anyways and i'll ask how and what
Thanks for that

Any gen
Did you saw him?
yes, did see him. Indeed, a T5 does not have the same patern and that bellhousing doesnt fit the T5 box
Thanks for cheking for me!
