Anyone know what gearbox i would need for a RWD conversion for a TDCI engine?
Which make is the engine?
John
Ford, same as fitted to the MK3 mondeo
theres a couple of different tdci engines.
the 2.0 mondeo pre 2006/7 is a ford 'puma' engine - cam chain and noisy and clattery.
the 1.4, 1.6, and focus 2.0 are psa Hdi engines. much more refined - ideal for kit cars
they should all mate up to the new 2006- transit rwd gearbox. 6 speed newer equivalent to mt75 IIRC.
whats your plan?
MY BEASTY
my old company ran transits with the new 6spd box, and had nothing but problems, any other ideas, no plans yet jus bandying idea about
im presuming your thinking about a tdci kitcar?
i was thinking the same thing this time last year, spent a long time researching rwd gearboxes and couldnt find anything for sensible money that could
sustain 400Nm reliably. I was almost giving up on the idea until i came across the mid-engined kit cars which use the standard fwd donor transmission.
I went with the MEV Rocket, best decision i made, very helpful company who didnt stand back and laugh when i mentioned installing a glorified
rayburn.
most difficult part was wiring. donor car had CAN networks and all sorts of fancy electrickery. some had to be kept, others i managed to bypass.
If i did something similar i would definately go for a VW unit with a mechanical pump. maybe not as quiet/smooth but so much simpler!
