Crazy Jay,
That seems reasonable provided that you are getting all the ancillaries and obviously providing the engine is in good order. Take off a rocker cover
(4 crosshead screws) and look inside. An engine of that age will have a reasonable amount of hardened black sludge in it but if it is crammed full of
sludge then it's not good news.
Ancillaries you should get include the starter, alternator, carbs, distributor, clutch cover, plate and flywheel (quite expensive so make sure that
you get the clutch bits!!). Ideally try to get the clutch slave cylinder and the release pushrod, arm and bearing. The slave cylinder is only about
£20 so not essential. You don't need the power steering pump or the viscous fan so you can maybe use these are bargaining chips if he starts
grumbling over ancillaries.
For a Vitesse engine £350 seems quite fair but you could easily spend the same again on ancillaries if you don't get them thrown in.
One other thing. To confirm that it is a Vitesse engine, look at the engine number which is located between the center cylinders of the nearside bank.
Make sure that it starts with "30A...." and it should show a 9.75:1 compression ratio stamped in the block.
Good luck,
Craig.

The EFI system on a vitesse is a fair part of the value (EFI bits go for about 200 quid on their own I think). If the engine has had no work done on
it for 83000 miles then the cam, followers and timing chain at least may not be in very good nick. If you can go and see / hear it running first and
put a compression tester on it, that might be a good idea.
Having said that, even if it "just runs" but is a bit down on performance, 350 is probably not bad if all the other ancillaries are
included. A Vitesse lump is the best starting point for a rebuild.
