v8's

from what ive read you cant reall get much power over standard from a v8 for the same sorta tuneing as a zetec or something, am i right or are v8;s still great for the over all fun of a locost with the beatuiful noise and torque

Are you trying to say that Rover V8s aren't tunable? I think TVR might have a bit to say about that!
I think you'll find it's pretty well catered for and if you have cash to blow you can get big power for a lot less than it would cost to build a similar powered zetec and you get loads more torque to boot.
As far as cheap off the shelf engines go I think the RV8 is a good bet in a Locost... at least I hope it is

no no no i anit saying v8's anit tuneable and i love the rover v8 got to be one of the best engines ever made just that the top limit i seen out of v8's is 300 n/a and never seen them really get turbo treatmeant (super chargers are evil engine parsites) but high 200 in a locost will make it really fly and the noise will keep anybody happy reason i want a v8 is mostaly the size of em (fill engine bay) and the noise

we're going rv8. I still don't have a real handle on what 300bhp/ton is going to feel like, but an evo VII overtook me enthusiastically the other night and I went "ooooooh" at how fast it was.. and they have something in the 200's bhp/ton.

so.. I think our 200bhp rv8 should be plenty of fun for a first rwd car.

Rover V8's are the cheapest way to get 200bhp in my opinion, which as said is equal to bout 300bhp per ton.

Torque is quite a difficult concept to get your head round so see if you can get yourself a ride in a v8 powered 7, It will blow you away Guaranteed

YOU REALLY REALLY REALLY DONT NEED MORE THAN 300BHP IN A LOCOST.

REALLY REALLY REALLY, YOU DONT!!!!!.

Do some power to weight ratio sums on 300 bhp in a 700kg car.

But its not really about power, its about low down, grunt. the RV8 is made of torque!!

Ed.
P.S. if you really are that LOOPY, get a lower compression one out of a landrover, and twin turbo it! Or supercharger would be equally mental.

But make sure you triangulate the chassis!

I-iii-iii-iii-ts ME!

Hurrah.

Hicost might disagree. Or those twin bike engine nutters.

I think it's like money, you can have lots but when you're used to it you want more.
