Where can I get fuel pipe?
I'm trying to find some piping for my Indy fuel lines (to an injection pinto), can anyone recommend any good places?
Also, can anyone confirm that I need 8mm copper microbore pipe and rubber hoses at each end to connect to the tank/injection system?
Finally, this may sound a bit dumb (duh!), but does the 8mm refer to the inside or outside diameter of the pipe? What size rubber hose do I need to
fit over this? (Measuring my tank outlet pipe it has an OD of 11mm, seems a weird size but thats what it is!)

as to were to get 8mm copper pipe B&Q called microbore heating pipe use a 8mm olive soldered onto the pipe as a pipe barb to prevent the rubber
pipe from blowing off

i'm gonna be using 6mm nylon tubing that has a pressure rating in excess of 20 bar - is about 6 quid for 10 metres and avalable in all colors,
petrol and oil resistant so is ideal.
and as for making it fit the fittings, its easy - dip the end in boiling water for a couple of mins and then push over the "tail" type
fitting and it contracts round it like a heatshrink and forms a seal like the one from the factory on the car's fuel lines onto the fuel rail
i get this from my local Thorite compressed air specialists

Fuel Line
We used 10mm small bore - as our fireblade pipes were 10mm so connection was easy. We got our from Wickes - in fact we have some left... how much do
you need?
One other thing - the SVA manual states that all flexible pipe's need to have recognised identification on them. As ours were from bike these
are ok. We bought some other from a local supplier which is marked up as such... the securing clips you use have to be recognised aswell.
Hope my memory serves me right! Someone I'm sure could clarify...

My advice would be to go to your local hydraulics supplyer (pirtek has trade counters in most towns) and ask for 3/8" P.O.A. This stands for
Petroliums,Oils and Air. It should push over your tank pipe quite nicely and,if you solder an olive onto the the 8mm copper pipe,it will fit that
nicely too.
While you are there, try and cadge some pipe crimps off them too(can be crimped with an old pair of nail pulling pliers).
If you decide to take this route, then the P.O.A. will be marked with its rating and so will the crimps.
Good luck with the build !

Don't forget pre and post pump filters if injection. Vx do 8mm in/out post pump filter with push on connectors. I used after market pre pump
filter which comes with a choice of inlet/outlet sizes (bit pricy though).

Filters?! Oh man now I'm getting confused! Will these be fitted to the donor vehicle (im using an injection pinto) or are they something people
add as an extra? When you say they're pricey how pricey are we talking?

Definately fit an inlet filter. I will try to post details tommorrow of the one I used.
I used steel petrol piping for the feed and return runs from a local motor factors.
Cheers,

CairB, thanks for that, that'd be great.
Where exactly does the fuel return go to? I thought you only needed a supply pipe from the tank to the engine or am I getting confused here?
Also, why did you choose to use steel over copper? Any significant reason or was that just what you used?

scoobyis2cool,
For fuel injection you must fit a return for the outlet from the fuel rail pressure regulator to the tank otherwise the pump would be running in a low
flow / high pressure / stalled state with poor presssure regulation and would probably burn out. Have a look how the arrangement is on the donor. The
pump runs continuously at nominally constant flow which should have a surplus at max power else the pressure will not be controlled.
I used steel because the local factor had a 20ft reel when I was doing it and at the time there were concerns regarding the petrol reacting with
copper (on TOL). I believe that this is not really a problem in the UK with current pump fuel.
Hope this helps,
Colin

try tifosi the guy who does nut covers
he had some plastic coated ally tube
@ stafford cant remember price...
as used on b.t.t.c racers
comes in 4m length with fittings
when you start this journey
you think it will be done in " no " time but then " no " turns into a " bloody " long time

Right, I've just been out and bought:
8mm microbore piping from B&Q
7.6mm ID fuel injector hose from Halfrauds (I know they're expensive but I was there anyway so it was the easiest thing to do)
The fuel injector hose came with those special fuel clips as well
Anyone see any problems with these before I rip them open?

scoobyis2cool,
The fuel pump inlet filter that I used is a WIX WF8033.
It's cylindrical about 138mm long, 60mm OD with 8mm ID connector tubes at each end.
See Wix for limited details
Cheers,
Colin
