All boils down to money and how much power you want. Donor Pinto will be cheap, good for 120 bhp if in good condition. Zetec cheap to buy (£300 for
good one) but you will need ecu and webers or injection, but should give 150+ bhp. Loads of chat on this subject in the past. What I would say is
think long and hard as this will be an important part of the build and not worth going for Pinto with a view to upgrading as not cost/work effective.

pinto
it depends on how much you want to spend
and what you want to do with it
the zetec is a better engine but all the goodies for it are exspensive most of the pinto stuff is dirt cheap
you get what you pay for
ps the injection pinto is the one to have as far as pintos go because the head flows more as standard

Ah but the pinto with twin webers will still yomp along and is easy for the back street mechanic to fix with minimal tools and a Haynes manual,
problems with injections systems need the attention of a workshop/garage with the gubbins to chase "gremlins" when things go wrong

Can't agree with injection being difficult to fault find. Once you get used to how the ECU works then life gets very simple. If one of the
sensors stops working it tells you, the injectors are just valves and tend to work or not and easy to test. If you can use a PC then working with a
ECU is no probs. Take time and get some info on the subject as sooner or later we'll all have to start using it!
