Crossflow advise
I have recently purchased a Locost and love it to bits but I would like some advise on how to improve the power from the 1300cc Crossflow.
Having Followed the advise of a memeber of this forum I fitted a weber twin choke. I would like some advise on the most cost effective way of
incresing the BHP. I am getting all sorts of conflicting advise from friends...
I have a spare standard cylindar head that I can use if this is any use. Thanks for the advise.

Increasing the power output of an engine- if it has to be done step by step, with regard to the cost and difficulty, then first step carb and
manifold-done
next step exhaust and manifold-done presumably
next step, the stage you are at, is the camshaft followed by the cylinder head. Ideally these should be done at the same time.
Is the engine in good condition? if in any doubt, consider a 1600 crossflow, although you may have a bonnet clearance problem

Hi Stu
First thing to do if you're using the twin choke is fit a 1600 cylinder head (bigger valves as standard) preferably GT spec. Put a fast road cam in
(BCF2,224 etc..). Then maybe bore it out to +90 thou and fit high comp (0r 1100cc) pistons. This will be a nice quick revvy engine. I would allways
fit a High pressure oil pump as well to be on the safe side.

Cheers Guys,
The engine itself was fully reconditioned before I got it so I would prefer to work on this one rater that changing the block. But the advise about
changing the head to a 1600GT is probably going to be more cost effective than changing the one I have. I know it is not really a hige issue to remove
the engine but can the cam shaft b changed with the engine in place. And where do you suggest I try for a fast cam shaft.
Cheers.

Hi Again
Cam change really means engine out unless you want to turnthr whole car upside down ( if you pulled the cam out the followers would drop into the
sump). A second hand cam can be had for about £30. Look in Classic Ford magazine classifieds. I have a BC3 cam for sale £20 to you. Depending on the
age and spec of your engine I also have a ported unleaded 1600 head but it has small chambers in it so it may not be suitable. If yours is a chambered
head then this is just what you're looking for!

p.s. Jon, I heard that blade boy! Should'nt you be out playing?
